Client Features
Protocol Revision: 2025-06-18
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) defines optional features that clients can provide to servers. These features enable servers to request additional capabilities from clients beyond the base protocol.
Client Features
- Roots: Filesystem boundaries and workspace directories
- Sampling: LLM sampling/completions through the client
- Elicitation: Request structured information from users
These features are optional but SHOULD be implemented to provide enhanced functionality for servers.
